EZEKIEL37 COUNSELING
Frequently Asked Questions
-
I am a Virginia board-licensed professional counselor and supervisor, as well as a Gottman trained and certified facilitator for marriage and relationship workshops. I am also trained in Internal Family Systems and trauma-informed counseling, with a focus on healing from addiction and relational wounds, including affairs. I have been providing counseling and coaching in both formal and informal settings since 2003.
Above all, I am human, just like you. who has walked in reliance on Jesus and His healing love. On a personal level, I understand life’s challenges, having walked through my own experiences of pain, mistakes, growth, and restoration.
-
It looks a little different for each client, depending on where you are, as we always seek to meet you there.
For example, if you’re walking through an urgent crisis, we usually begin by focusing on that immediate need to give space to share what’s happening and provide you support to help stabilize and move out of crisis mode.
If you come in carrying deeper, ongoing patterns of pain you want to process and heal from, we begin by creating space for you to share your story and feel heard. This helps me get to know you more fully, so we can thoughtfully determine the next steps in your healing journey based on your unique needs.
-
Each counseling session is between 50 and 55 minutes.
-
The rate for the first intake session is $210 and for all subsequent sessions is $185.
-
We accept insurance for individual sessions only. All other services are not covered by insurance. We accept Anthem BlueCross BlueShield
-
The short answer is: it depends. The goal is not to keep you in counseling longer than needed or to create dependence on it. Rather, the hope is that through the counseling process you learn how to handle pain and difficulties in a healthy way that leaves you with growth spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
-
At the beginning, the recommendation is once a week.
-
After ensuring that you filled out the required information prior to your first session, come to your first session as you are.
-
We take confidentiality very seriously to provide you a safe environment where you are comfortable sharing without the fear of anyone else knowing. Not only do we not share any information you discuss with us, we also do not disclose who our clients are. We use a HIPPA- compliant software to ensure the confidentiality of all records and of virtual sessions.
Your counselor will go over these details with you during your first session so you feel fully informed and at ease.

I, Peri, have a deep passion for helping others build healthy, life-giving relationships. Because of that, I specialize in all areas of relationship: marriage, premarital, dating, family dynamics, workplace relationships, and most importantly, one’s relationship with God.
To truly address the pain and struggles that arise in relationships, I have also pursued specialized training in areas that often impact them, including trauma, addiction, anxiety, and infidelity.
I am EMDR-certified, Gottman-trained, and also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), which allows me to help clients gently work through childhood wounds and understand how those experiences may be shaping their relationships today.
-
At Ezekiel37 Counseling, you will be meeting with a competent and compassionate counselor who not only is equipped professionally but also who has had his/her own personal journey of healing.
-
We do offer virtual sessions. However, the preference is always in-person sessions.
-
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as each person’s journey is unique.
Progress often depends on several factors, such as the root causes of your struggles, the intensity and duration of the pain, any resistance shaped by past trauma or patterns of wrongdoing, and your ability to apply what we work on between sessions.
Wherever you are, the goal is to walk with you at a pace that is both meaningful and sustainable, so that real and lasting growth can take place.
-
Clients come in with different goals. However, ultimately, the goal of the counseling experience is that you become equipped to recognize when and how to seek the help you need, through safe and healthy relationships, both vertically, and horizontally.
In addition, it is to grow into a place of healing where you are also able to offer care and support to others, not out of striving or emptiness, but from a place of wholeness, wisdom, and genuine love.

During the workshop you'll learn how to shift from self-protection to genuine connection, how to communicate your needs with humility, and how to recognize what is yours to carry, what belongs to your spouse, and what must be entrusted to God.
We also address common relational patterns, such as control or pride, and how Christ-centered growth brings freedom and healing. Couples are guided in building a strong foundation of friendship, repairing hurts with tenderness and responsibility, and learning how to use conflict as an opportunity for deeper closeness rather than division.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll practice “turning toward” one another in small, meaningful ways, while also learning how to create shared rhythms, traditions, and purpose that strengthen your bond and reflect who you are as a couple.
What is the hope for me at the end of this workshop?
The hope for each couple is that they walk away having intentionally invested meaningful, focused time into their relationship, which is a time that often gets lost in the busyness of life. You will walk away having reflected, learned, and gained practical tools to help you gain new understanding and tools to strengthen friendship, deepen connection, and foster closeness. Most importantly, the workshop offers you an opportunity for a renewed perspective that leads to a shift in focus that allows each spouse to approach the relationship with greater clarity, humility, and purpose, leading to lasting growth and a healthier, more life-giving marriage.
2-Day Workshops
-
These intensives offer a focused space for couples to step away from the noise, gently uncover what’s beneath the surface, and begin restoring connection, trust, and peace in their relationship.
-
I offer a one-day and two-day intensive and hours depend on available dates.
-
The cost for the one day intensive is $1,450. The cost for the 2 days intensive is $2,500.
-
This is not covered by insurance. By not using insurance complete privacy is guaranteed and we stay away from diagnosis to protect you from having it on your records. In addition, without the insurance then I have the freedom to customize the help you need instead of having to offer help only in the amount and format that the insurance approves.
-
The intensives are conducted in the privacy of my counseling office. It is a safe, calm, beautifully furnished and decorated, private, and comfortable space.
-
Here are some steps to help you prepare for a fruitful time at the intensive:
Ensuring to fill out the assessment in a timely manner to give me time to put together a customized plan for your intensive.
Come having had a restful night sleep and feeling refreshed
Come with the willingness to be open and transparent
-
The benefit of intensives is that they are very customized so the focus is not the specific topics as much as it is to help couples get out of their state of gridlock and to begin healing the painful rupture in the relationship.
-
3 things:
Clarity! Couples come to the intensive with heightened emotions, deep hurt, internal noise and chaos, confusion about what the real problem is and how to move forward. Going through the intensive the root causes of the pain surface and the chaos begins to give way to clarity
Feeling heard and understood: With giving each partner enough time to share what their pain points are and their needs while being helped with how to share in a way that the other partner listens, allows for the space and their ability to express and be heard, seen and understood. This is usually experienced by both of the spouses and not just one.
Knowing how to move forward: Once there is clarity, understanding of each other’s pain, then we work on the practical ways of moving forward away from gridlock and towards healing.
Intensives
-
Premarital counseling covers the key areas that help build a strong, unified foundation for marriage. This includes developing financial unity, understanding how each of you responds to stress, and growing together in your spiritual life. You’ll also explore daily life dynamics such as habits, preferences, and rhythms, along with how to make decisions and share responsibilities as a team.
In addition, we focus on learning how to navigate conflict in healthy ways, through repentance, forgiveness, and repair. We also address important relational areas like setting boundaries with in-laws. Throughout the process, there is a strong emphasis on how to build emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual intimacy, helping you enter marriage with clarity, unity, and a deeper connection.
-
We meet once a week for 10 sessions (10 weeks). Some programs do it all at once in a day or two. We prefer for those 10 sessions to be done over the course of 10 weeks to help couples take what they learn and know and allow for time to grow deep roots with what they are gaining from the sessions.
-
Your part is to be as honest and as transparent as possible and to come with an open mind and heart to get to know your partner better and to be known better by your partner.
At the same time, the focus is on your own understanding, growth, and learning. The focus is not on what your partner should be learning. Your partner is invited to do the same.
When each partner comes with openness and humility, the process works beautifully and fruitfully. When the focus shifts to evaluating or tracking what the other person is learning, it can hinder the growth that is meant to take place.
-
You will be given recommendations and suggestions of things to talk through together, reflect on, and pray about in between sessions. These are meant to help make our time together more meaningful and to allow you to come into the next session with your own thoughts and experiences on what we discussed.
This is not required homework, but rather an invitation to help you get the most out of the process in a way that feels helpful and supportive for you.
-
Yes, the assessment will be to understand your similarities and differences and how to work well together from a place of knowing each other better.
-
Yes, most churches accept our pre-marital counseling as a valid form of preparation for the union of marriage.
